Chairlates

What is it?

Based upon the original mat exercises but done on a chair in both seated & standing for those who find it difficult getting down onto the mat or transitioning between exercises.

How will it benefit me?

As muscle mass starts to deteriorate as we get older keeping supple & fit is key & can be done in a low impact manner that is kinder to joints whilst still being effective.

Can I still do Pilates with my medical condition?

Arthritic conditions will benefit as joint compression is decreased due to the lengthening focus of muscles during Pilates exercises. Osteoporosis can be helped through standing leg exercises that may help to increase bone density. Lower back stenosis can be alleviated through certain stretches which counteract gravity that pull you into a hunched position.

Is the class suitable for me?

It is perfect for those wanting to improve ease of movement daily. Core strength (spine, pelvis & shoulder) can be improved along with balance & coordination, increased joint mobility & flexibility of muscles. Small props will also be used to keep the class fun & varied! Modifications & adaptations will also be given when necessary.

Will we just be in a chair?

No, as the weeks progress you can choose to do selected exercises in standing to improve balance focusing on ankle stability & awareness of the feet.
