What is Sports Massage?

‘The application and manipulation of stretch methods to the muscles and connective tissues for the purpose of enhancing sporting and exercise performance.’

Sports Massage can have a positive influence upon mobility (the joints & bones) and upon flexibility (targets the muscles) of the human body.  It is a specific and deeper technique in comparison to other massage methods and can consequently be used for treating injuries.

How does Sports Massage aid in the treatment of injuries?

It enables injuries to be managed through the various stages of the healing process using techniques to remodel scar tissue, realign muscle fibres and to sedate or stimulate nerve endings.

Do I have to be a sports person to benefit from Sports Massage?

No, Sports Massage is beneficial to most people to relieve excess muscle tension and tightness.  It can also be very effective in relieving muscle spasms and can be used in conjunction with other therapies such as osteopathy, physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment.
